Capcom has officially announced that Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is getting a long-awaited remaster, bringing the classic 2002 PlayStation 2 game to modern platforms. The news was revealed during the latest Capcom Spotlight event, confirming a 2025 release for the upgraded version of this beloved action-adventure game.
Classic Samurai Action Returns
Originally released over two decades ago, Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny was widely praised for its engaging story, combat mechanics, and immersive feudal Japan setting. The game follows Jubei Yagyu, a skilled warrior on a quest for revenge against Nobunaga Oda, who has been resurrected by dark forces.
With this remaster, Capcom aims to enhance the visuals with high-definition upgrades, similar to what was seen in Onimusha: Warlords Remastered back in 2018. While significant gameplay changes have not been confirmed, fans can expect smoother graphics, improved textures, and modernized performance.
Which Platforms Will Get Onimusha 2?
Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Remastered will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One. Though it will be playable on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S via backward compatibility, Capcom has not announced a dedicated next-gen version.
Will Other Onimusha Games Get a Remaster?
With Onimusha 2 receiving a remaster, speculation has begun about whether Capcom will continue remastering the rest of the series, including Onimusha Tactics, Onimusha Blade Warriors, and the fan-favorite Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams. However, at the moment, no further remasters have been confirmed.
Adding to the excitement, Capcom has also revealed a brand-new Onimusha title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, scheduled for 2026, making it the first new entry in the franchise in 20 years.
