Samsung has released its latest security update for Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The September 2024 security update is expected to start rolling out soon, with some devices receiving it as part of the One UI 6.1.1 update, while others will receive the security patch only.
Samsung’s September 2024 Security Update Fixes 67 Vulnerabilities
Just a day after Google rolled out its September 2024 security update for Pixel phones and Android in general, Samsung followed with its own security patch. This patch addresses 67 vulnerabilities found in previous software versions. Of these, 44 were identified by Google, while Samsung provided fixes for 23 issues.
Among Google’s fixes, one vulnerability is categorized as “Critical,” while 32 are rated “High” priority. Samsung’s own fixes cover “High” and “Moderate” priority issues. The company addressed problems in One UI’s WindowManagerService, My Files, Theme Center, performance monitoring tool, One UI Home, Samsung DeX, and Samsung Knox.
Which Devices Will Receive the September 2024 Security Update?
Although Samsung has yet to push the September 2024 security patch to any devices at the time of writing, the rollout is expected to begin soon. High-end Galaxy models like the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24 are likely to be the first to receive the update. Foldable devices, including the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6, are also expected to get the latest security fixes in the coming days.
For mid-range and entry-level models, the new security update should arrive by the end of the month. Carrier-locked models may receive the update slightly later than factory-unlocked ones.
What About the One UI 6.1.1 Update?
The One UI 6.1.1 update first debuted with the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6. Many expected it to be rolled out to other devices by now, but Samsung has delayed the update. This time, One UI 6.1.1 is expected to be available for more devices, not just foldable ones.
In previous years, One UI x.1.1 updates were reserved for foldable phones and tablets, but Samsung is now expected to bring the update to standard smartphones as well.
