AMD’s Ryzen 9000 desktop CPUs are launching in a few weeks, but it appears one lucky user has already got their hands on the Ryzen 7 9700X ahead of time.
AMD Ryzen 9000 “Harmony 5” Desktop CPUs Arrive in Stores, With One User Allegedly Getting a Ryzen 7 9700X Early
The imminent launch of AMD Ryzen 9000 “Harmony 5” desktop CPUs has every PC enthusiast and gamer excited. These new chips are set to introduce a brand-new architecture and deliver faster performance with extensive tuning capabilities. The best part is that users won’t need to switch to a new platform; if you already have an AM5 motherboard, you’re all set for an upgrade.

While the official retail launch is scheduled for July 31st, it seems one fortunate customer has managed to acquire not one, but two next-gen Ryzen 9000 desktop CPUs. Reddit user ElectricalEmployer 22 posted in the pcmasterrace subreddit about obtaining two Ryzen 9000 CPUs. These CPUs, identified as Ryzen 7 9700X, are 8-core chips. The packaging appears authentic, and the chip is visible through the box.
It is unclear from which store these were acquired, but it might have been a mistake by an employee or the shop itself, as the NDA on sales isn’t lifted until a few weeks. It’s also possible that the user is a store employee who got excited and posted about the Ryzen 9000 CPU upon receiving it.
Additionally, there is no official word on pricing yet. However, the part number matches that of the Ryzen 7 9700X, “100-100001404WOF.” Reports suggest that the CPU prices for Ryzen 9000 “Harmony 5” chips will be similar to the existing Ryzen 7000 “Harmony 4” CPUs, allowing users to get better performance at the same price as the previous generation’s MSRPs.
Reviewers are already getting their hands on these chips ahead of the launch to prepare for performance evaluations. This is where most performance leaks originate, as many testers are unaware that their benchmarks are being automatically uploaded to online databases.
The AMD Ryzen 7 9700X “100-000001404” is an 8-core CPU with 16 threads, a base clock of 3.8 GHz, a boost clock of up to 5.5 GHz, 40 MB of cache (1 CCD with 32 MB L3 + 8 MB L2), and a low TDP of 65W, significantly lower than the 105W TDP of its predecessor, the Ryzen 7 7700X. As mentioned earlier, the CPU is expected to launch with the rest of the Ryzen 9000 “Harmony 5” lineup by the end of July, so stay tuned.
