Moore Threads MTT S80 GPU Doubles Its Performance a Year Later Thanks to Major Driver Enhancements
Chinese company Moore Threads’ MTT S80 gaming GPU has received a significant performance boost in recent tests due to extensive driver enhancements.
China-Specific Moore Threads MTT S80 GPU Still Trails Behind Modern Graphics Cards Despite Doubling Its Performance Since Launch
While examining China’s domestic GPU options, Moore Threads stands out not only due to lower competition but also because the firm has quickly scaled its resources. This rapid development is why the MTT S80 GPU has shown a substantial performance increase in various gaming benchmarks tested by ITHome.
This indicates that the domestic gaming GPU market is heating up, and with continuous efforts from Moore Threads, they are working to bridge the gap with mainstream companies like NVIDIA and AMD. However, there is still a considerable distance to cover.
ITHome extensively covered the Moore Threads MTT S80 GPU, revealing that the platform has significantly expanded its game compatibility. The GPU drivers now support every major game in China, with many also receiving performance optimizations.
For a quick overview of specifications, the Moore Threads MTT S80 is the world’s only true PCIe 5.0 compatible graphics card featuring 16 GB of GDDR6 memory and 4096 MUSA cores with a clock speed of 1.8 GHz. The graphics card was introduced in late 2022 and launched in early 2023. While the GPU looked decent on paper, it couldn’t compete with NVIDIA’s GTX 1050 in last year’s benchmarks. However, the current scenario is different.
ITHome used the company’s latest 260.70 driver version, updated a few days ago. The first game tested was the popular Genshin Impact, and at launch, Chinese users noted that the MTT S80 struggled to run the game properly even at a lower resolution. With the new update, the GPU achieved a stable 50-60 FPS at 1080p resolution with high image quality. Additionally, GPU utilization rates increased significantly, addressing a major issue with previous drivers. Overall, performance has doubled compared to last year’s benchmark results.
A similar pattern was observed in games like League of Legends, which managed to run at 380-410 FPS at 1080p and 320-350 FPS at 2K, again doubling the numbers from last year. ITHome further tested titles such as Counter Strike-2, Devil May Cry 5, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, with FPS gains ranging from 80-100%, depending on in-game settings. In synthetic benchmarks like the 3DMark Fire Strike test, the Moore Threads MTT S80 GPU delivered double the performance, scoring 8617 points.
Moore Threads has achieved these significant performance improvements by refining their onboard drivers and ensuring extensive compatibility with mainstream titles. It would have been preferable if Moore Threads had taken more time to optimize before the initial launch, but at least they have continued to develop the software suite for the MTT S80 GPU. These driver enhancements will also benefit the MTT S70 graphics cards, and the company is already working on its next solution.
