Ubisoft has officially unveiled “Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” their highly anticipated game set in feudal Japan, during a thrilling reveal event. Known during its development phase as Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red, this latest installment will transport players to a beautifully rendered feudal Japan starting this November, embracing the essence of the ninja lifestyle through its main character, Naoe.
In an exciting twist, “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” will feature a dual protagonist system, introducing the legendary Black samurai Yasuke as a secondary playable character. Unlike previous iterations with multiple main characters, Naoe and Yasuke are designed to offer distinctly unique gameplay experiences. Naoe excels with the ninjato, wristblade, and kusarigama, while Yasuke wields his katana with formidable skill, clad in heavy samurai armor.
The game’s debut trailer showcased its high cinematic quality and introduced the game’s main characters, hinting at the depth and innovation Ubisoft is aiming for with this title. More details and gameplay footage are expected to be shared at the upcoming Ubisoft Forward event in June.
“Assassin’s Creed Shadows” is being developed by Ubisoft Quebec, the creative team behind the acclaimed “Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.” The game, first teased in 2022 under its codename, fulfills a long-standing request from fans for a game set in Japan.
This title is part of a broader expansion of the Assassin’s Creed universe. Other projects include “Assassin’s Creed Jade,” a mobile adventure set during China’s Qin dynasty, and the enigmatic “Assassin’s Creed Codename: Hexe,” which promises a unique twist on the franchise under the direction of Clint Hocking. Additionally, “Assassin’s Creed Codename: Infinity” is set to redefine the series by linking various games and player experiences through a central hub.
“Assassin’s Creed Shadows” is slated for release on Amazon Luna, Mac, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X on November 15. This latest chapter not only extends the Assassin’s Creed legacy but enriches it with a deep dive into one of the most requested historical settings yet.
