Atari has officially announced the revival of its iconic game, Fatal Run, under the new title Fatal Run 2089. Originally released in 1990 and a global hit, the game was available on the Atari 7800 and Atari 2600. The upcoming Fatal Run 2089 is scheduled for release in 2025 on multiple platforms, including Steam, Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
The game is being developed by MNSTR Studios, a new name in the industry making its debut with this project. Their portfolio showcases an array of 3D projects, including Mech characters, concept art, and illustrations. While their contributions to other projects might not have been fully revealed yet, they clearly have a solid foundation, with some connections hinted at through banners featuring franchises like Power Rangers.
Fatal Run 2089 is being built using Unreal Engine 5, promising intense racing action for players eager for a dose of nostalgia. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic fantasy world, where players will explore four distinct global regions, each offering unique challenges and characteristics.
These regions will feature hairpin turns, branching paths, explosives, and secret routes for players to discover. Fatal Run 2089 will offer 20 levels of racing excitement, with players able to choose from seven different vehicles, each with its own unique strengths. Players will need to experiment with each vehicle to find the one best suited to secure their victory.
Atari has also released the official announcement trailer for Fatal Run 2089, showcasing the post-apocalyptic world now engulfed in radiation. Players will join a group of determined scientists known as the “Engineers.” The mission is to transport ARCs—advanced clean energy devices designed to clear radiation and purify the atmosphere, paving the way for humanity to repopulate the earth.
Though Fatal Run 2089 is primarily a racing game, it offers much more. Players will face off against four challenging bosses, each with unique abilities and strategies that require creative thinking to defeat. Additionally, there will be fun arcade-style challenges where players must race against the clock, taking shortcuts to beat the time limits.
Currently, there is no official store page for Fatal Run 2089, as the game is still in the early stages of development. Pricing details have yet to be announced. However, more information about the game is available on Atari’s official page.
