The next mainline installment in the popular Borderlands series is officially on its way. Gearbox has announced that Borderlands 4 is slated for release sometime in 2025. The highly anticipated game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, as revealed during the Gamescom Opening Night Live show.
The reveal trailer was shrouded in mystery, and the description on YouTube didn’t offer much more in terms of details. According to the description, “In this next installment of the definitive looter shooter, players will assume the role of a legendary Vault Hunter as they blast their way through hordes of enemies in search of new treasures to loot on an all-new planet.” At the very least, this new game appears set to continue the rich legacy of its predecessors.
The announcement comes on the heels of the Borderlands movie’s generally poor reception and disappointing box office performance. Borderlands 3, the last mainline entry in the series, launched in September 2019 and was met with widespread acclaim. Fans of the series have been eagerly awaiting news of a new installment, and it looks like 2025 will be the year they get their wish.
