July’s PS Plus haul is looking promising for subscribers
Have you finished Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth’s 50-hour main story? What about its 100 hours of side content? Every Remnawave tower, combat assignment, and summon shrine, including Odin? Well, you’re in luck! It seems Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion is coming to PS Plus this month, allowing you to delve into the original soldier love triangle that set everything in motion.
According to reliable French leaker billbil_kun, the remake of the 2008 PlayStation Portable prequel is one of the titles joining PS Plus’ Netflix-like library for subscribers of the Extra tier and above. Update: the PlayStation Blog has confirmed the full list. The 2022 HD version has its flaws and might feel rough if you’re coming from Rebirth, but it serves as a decent vehicle for the original FFVII backstory that every fan needs to know to be a completionist.
Here are some of the other games billbil_kun reports will be available on PS Plus Extra starting July 17:
- Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion
- Remnant II
- Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous – Enhanced Edition
- Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord
- No More Heroes 3
- Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes Complete Edition
Remnant II is last year’s hit loot shooter with Soulsborne influences and features excellent level and boss designs. Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is a medieval strategy sim where you lead armies, battle rival kingdoms, and raise your successors, featuring sprawling battlefields that combine high-level tactics with first-person action. The enhanced edition of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is also worth a look, as it’s a substantial isometric RPG based on the tabletop game, offering deep combat and rewarding role-playing.
The rest of the PS Plus updates for July will be revealed by Sony tomorrow, according to billbil_kun. That’s when we’ll also learn which games are leaving the service at the end of this month and whether the company is improving its selection of classic games. Fingers crossed for more PS2 titles starting with Suikoden III.
Update 7/10/2024 2:37 p.m. ET: The PlayStation Blog’s official list of July PS Plus games also includes:
- The Jackbox Party Pack 9 | PS4, PS5
- Deadcraft | PS4
- Steep | PS4
- Job Simulator | PS VR2
- Summoner | PS4, PS5
- Ratchet and Clank Size Matters | PS4, PS5
- Jeanne d’Arc | PS4, PS5
The classics this month are particularly exciting. Summoner is a memorable yet rough PS2 RPG, and Ratchet and Clank Size Matters was an excellent PSP version of the Sony action platformer. Jeanne d’Arc is the title I’m most thrilled about, as the Level-5 strategy RPG offers a solid historical fantasy experience for the PSP. Think Final Fantasy Tactics set during The Hundred Years War. An instant download in my book.
