Flappy Bird is set to make a comeback in 2025, thanks to a group of passionate fans who have acquired the rights to relaunch the game on iOS and Android. This fan group, called the Flappy Bird Foundation, has announced their plans to release the game next year. However, it remains unclear if Dong Nguyen, the original creator of the game, is involved in the relaunch. Nguyen, who took the game offline less than a year after its release in 2014, has not responded to requests for comment, and his social media profiles and development company’s website show no recent updates.
The rights to the game were acquired from Gametech, LLC, a company not associated with Nguyen. After Flappy Bird was removed from app stores, clones flooded the market, and various companies sought to claim its trademark. At the time, Nguyen had shown interest in bringing the game back, but Apple’s App Store rules likely prevented him from doing so, as developers lose ownership of an app’s name once it’s removed.
Fans of the original game can expect several new features in the upcoming version. While it will still feature the classic Flappy Bird character, future updates will introduce new modes, characters, and massive multiplayer challenges. The updated game will include a “rivals” mode, allowing players to compete against 99 other players, as well as a mode where players shoot birds through basketball hoops. New characters, like Peng the penguin and a rainbow-mohawked bird called Quirky, will also be part of the revamped game.
For those who enjoyed the simple but challenging gameplay of Flappy Bird in 2013, the upcoming relaunch offers a fresh take with exciting new elements.
