Hunt: Showdown 1896 is officially out and available for players on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This new version of the game replaces the original Hunt: Showdown, with players who already own the original game eligible for a free upgrade to Hunt: Showdown 1896. The update brings numerous new features and improvements that Crytek has introduced to keep the game exciting and fresh, powered by their CRYENGINE 5.11, a cutting-edge engine designed to make the game as visually stunning and immersive as possible.
With the implementation of CRYENGINE 5.11, players can expect to encounter a new Wild Target to hunt, as well as the introduction of the Scorched Earth Event, all set within the newly added Colorado biome. This update takes the story forward in time, transporting players to the west of the bayou. Here, players will discover new weapons and utilize Pacts, which can either aid or hinder their progress.
For those interested in exploring Hunt: Showdown 1896, the game is available for free on PC during Steam’s Free Weekend, running from August 15 through August 19. Players can venture into the new Colorado map, Mammon’s Gulch, which features 16 unique compounds scattered across mountain peaks and deep within mines.
As previously announced, players will also face the latest Wild Target: The Hellborn. This monstrous entity, a fusion of fire and flesh, can be tracked audibly using Dark Sight. The Hellborn is a highly aggressive foe, moving erratically and hurling slag at nearby Hunters, scorching everything within its reach.
However, encountering the Hellborn comes with significant risk, as its terrifying shrieks will attract the attention of other Hunters, adding an additional layer of danger to the hunt.
The Scorched Earth event, running from August 15 through October 7, is closely tied to the Hellborn theme. Players can delve deeper into the story of Mammon’s Gulch by participating in the event, earning new equipment, ammunition, and weapons. These rewards include the 1865 Carbine, the Infantry 73L base rifle with a sniper variant, Bear Traps, and many more items.
Additionally, Crytek has introduced a Weekly Challenge system to Hunt: Showdown 1896, designed to support players who join mid-event. The game also features a Battle Pass with both free and premium tracks, allowing players to unlock various rewards throughout the event.
