According to a report by NateTheHate2 on X, the highly anticipated game Indiana Jones and The Great Circle is expected to launch as a timed exclusive on PC and Xbox in December 2024. The exclusivity period is rumored to last six months, with a planned release on PlayStation 5 slated for the first half of 2025.
In 2021, Microsoft Gaming acquired MachineGames, the developer behind this Indiana Jones title, as part of its $7.5 billion acquisition of Bethesda. Given this, it’s highly probable that the game will debut as an Xbox exclusive, available from day one on Xbox Game Pass for both PC and consoles.
However, it’s important to note that this information is still speculative. We do know that Indiana Jones and The Great Circle will be featured at Gamescom Opening Night Live, where more details about the game and its release might be revealed.
This upcoming action-adventure game is being developed by MachineGames, the studio known for its work on the Wolfenstein franchise, as well as some titles in the Quake series. Indiana Jones and The Great Circle is being published by Bethesda Softworks and is set between the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade.
One surprising aspect of this game is its first-person perspective, although there will be third-person moments, particularly during environmental exploration. The game also emphasizes stealth, allowing players to control Indiana Jones, utilizing his iconic whip both as a weapon and a tool to solve puzzles and overcome challenging obstacles.
The development of the game was officially announced in January 2021 by Bethesda and MachineGames, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. The project is led by Director Jerk Gustaffson, with original music contributions and reinterpretations of classic Indiana Jones themes by composer Gordy Haab.
As of now, Indiana Jones and The Great Circle does not have an official release date beyond the general timeframe of 2024. It’s possible that the footage shown at Gamescom will include an official release date announcement. This title is shaping up to be one of the most eagerly awaited Xbox exclusives in recent memory.
There is also speculation that the game might eventually come to PlayStation 5. Microsoft seems to be weighing its options on whether to expand the game’s availability to other platforms. During the Xbox Business Update, Phil Spencer hinted that four exclusives might be ported to other platforms, though he did not specify which ones. This has led to much speculation, and fans are eagerly waiting to see what new information Gamescom Opening Night Live will bring.
