It’s been far too long.
After announcing it several years ago, Nintendo has once again revealed Metroid Prime 4, now with a first look at gameplay, which you can check out below.
Revealed at the June 2024 Nintendo Direct, the trailer showcased numerous gameplay clips alongside a variety of alien creatures Samus must battle in the eagerly awaited game. It is set to launch in 2025.
In addition to the gameplay reveal, Nintendo announced that Metroid Prime 4 is now titled Metroid Prime 4: Past. The new logo features black and purple shades, a striking change from the original logo, which was black with a blue flame-like outline around the number 4.
Nintendo first announced that Metroid Prime 4 was in development during its E3 2017 presentation, with Bandai Namco Studios initially leading the project. However, following initial development challenges, Nintendo announced in 2019 that development had restarted with Retro Studios, the original developers of the series, taking over the project.
The first installment of Metroid Prime was originally released in 2002 for the GameCube and was a major success for Retro Studios, praised for transforming the series’ 2D gameplay into the third dimension. The original Metroid Prime was a first-person game that achieved great success by translating the 2D style into a new perspective.
Following the first Metroid Prime, two sequels, a prequel, and three spin-offs were released. The latest addition to the Metroid Prime series was a remaster of the original Metroid Prime, released for the Nintendo Switch in 2023.
