New Dark Fantasy Wukong Trailer Excludes Xbox Series X and S Release

Dark Fantasy Wukong will launch on Xbox Series X and S after PlayStation 5 and PC, as confirmed by developer Game Science.

The announcement followed the release of Dark Fantasy Wukong’s Summer Game Fest 2024 trailer, which omitted any mention of the previously planned Xbox Series X and S versions.

Game Science showcased a new trailer for its epic fantasy adventure inspired by Journey to the West. The trailer, which previously included the Xbox Series X and S logos, now focuses solely on the PlayStation 5 and PC versions.

Game Science had previously announced an August 20, 2024 release date for Dark Fantasy Wukong on PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC during the Game Awards 2023. However, the game will now launch on PS5 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on August 20, with the Xbox versions to follow.

In a FAQ, Game Science stated that they are still optimizing the Xbox version and apologized to Xbox users.

“PC and PS5 users can enjoy the full game starting August 20, 2024,” Game Science said in their statement. “We are currently optimizing the Xbox Series X|S version to meet our quality standards, so it won’t release simultaneously with the other platforms. We apologize for the delay and aim to minimize the wait for Xbox users. We will announce the release date as soon as it meets our quality standards.”

Game Science’s release of this trailer at Summer Game Fest comes after IGN reported numerous sexist comments made by the studio’s founders and other developers over the past decade.

These comments have sparked significant backlash among Chinese gamers, particularly women and their allies, who find them demeaning and alienating. However, many other gamers have defended Game Science.

As a result, the videos, discussions, and communities surrounding Dark Fantasy Wukong have become hotbeds of fierce debate, with women demanding apologies and accountability, and their critics responding with sexism and hostility.
