Nintendo Switch 2 Aims for Broad Store Availability at Launch
Nintendo is committed to avoiding scalping issues for the Nintendo Switch 2 by ensuring enough units are produced to meet consumer demand.
According to VGC, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa addressed a question during a recent Q&A session with shareholders regarding measures to prevent scalping. Furukawa emphasized that the primary strategy is to ensure consumers won’t need to turn to resellers to purchase the console. This goal will be achieved by producing sufficient units to satisfy customer demand. Additionally, the company might implement further measures based on regional circumstances. Fortunately, Nintendo is unlikely to face significant production challenges, as the semiconductor shortage that previously affected the original Switch’s production is no longer a problem.
This commitment to broad availability at launch is not new. Earlier this year, shipment data estimated that Nintendo would produce over 10 million units of the console in its first fiscal year, avoiding the scarcity issues experienced by the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, which remained difficult to find in stores for months.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has yet to be officially unveiled, but a full reveal is expected before the year’s end. Stay tuned for the latest updates on the system as they become available.
