Anticipated sequel confirmed during Capcom Next Summer 2024 livestream.

Amid swirling rumors about Resident Evil 9’s imminent reveal, Capcom has officially announced that the next installment in the iconic survival horror series is now under development.

Development is being spearheaded by Resident Evil 7: Biohazard director Koshi Nakanishi, who announced the new sequel while discussing the mobile release of the previous game.

“It was really challenging to decide what to do after [Resident Evil 7],” Nakanishi stated. “But I discovered the direction, and to be honest, it feels significant. I can’t share any specifics right now, but I hope you’re excited for the day I can.”

Nakanishi has an extensive history with Resident Evil. Besides Resident Evil 7, which rejuvenated the franchise in 2017, Nakanishi directed Resident Evil Mercenaries 3D for the Nintendo 3DS and the original Resident Evil Revelations game. He also contributed as a designer on Resident Evil 5.
