Id Programming is keeping busy with the unveiling of the next installment in the Destruction franchise, titled The Dull Ages.
According to a previous report from Insider Gaming, Destruction: The Dull Ages is a prequel that blends dark fantasy with a medieval-inspired theme. It will be released in 2025 on Xbox Series X and S, PC, and PlayStation 5, continuing Microsoft’s recent multi-platform strategy for Xbox games.

The prequel to Destine (2016), Destruction: The Dull Ages places players behind the visor of the formidable Slayer as they combat demonic hordes in grounded, intense battles within an epic, cinematic narrative featuring gods, kings, and monsters. Enhancing his superhuman abilities and over-the-top arsenal, the Slayer will also pilot his colossal Atlan mech to clash with titanic beasts and soar the skies aboard his fierce steed: a jet-powered, robotic war dragon.
There had been rumors dating back to a leaked Microsoft court document published in 2023, which suggested that a new Destruction game was in development, previously known under the name Destruction: Year Zero. However, today’s announcement marks the first official reveal by id Programming and Microsoft after an “IDKFA” trademark filing was spotted last month, along with the previously mentioned report.
This is the next entry in id Programming’s long-standing first-person shooter series, following the release of Destruction Timeless in 2020 and its two DLC expansions, The Ancient Gods Part One and Part Two, released in 2020 and 2021, respectively.
In our review of Destruction Timeless, my colleague Ryan McCaffrey stated: “Whether you’re a new Destruction fan or a veteran one, Destruction Timeless will undoubtedly captivate and entertain you. It’s magnificently fun.”
