The Last of Us Part II Remastered stands out as a brilliant example of what the PlayStation 5 Pro can achieve when paired with the advanced PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaler, powered by AI technology. According to early analysis, this remastered version pushes the console’s capabilities to the limit.
Digital Foundry’s pre-release examination confirms that The Last of Us Part II Remastered targets a stunning 4K resolution and a smooth 60 FPS on the PlayStation 5 Pro. By utilizing PSSR, the game upscales from 1440p to 4K, offering a significant visual boost compared to the base model’s Performance mode. The upscaler sharpens textures, reduces blur, and minimizes aliasing, especially in detailed environments like foliage. On top of that, geometric edges are noticeably improved on the PlayStation 5 Pro, enhancing the overall depth of the visual experience.
Performance-wise, The Last of Us Part II Remastered delivers a steady 60 FPS, with only minor dips in isolated scenarios, providing a fluid gameplay experience that keeps players fully immersed in the action.
One of the game’s key strengths lies in its use of PSSR, which outperforms the widely adopted AMD FSR by delivering superior image stability. Although the game hasn’t been released on PC yet, and direct comparisons with NVIDIA’s DLSS are not available, prior data from similar games suggests that PSSR may trail behind DLSS slightly in areas like fine edge details. However, PSSR excels in maintaining clarity during fast-moving scenes and providing an overall sharp visual experience.
While The Last of Us Part II was already visually stunning on previous consoles, this remaster takes full advantage of the PlayStation 5 Pro’s features to elevate the game to a new level. The enhancements are subtle yet impactful, making this version the ultimate way to experience Naughty Dog’s iconic title. As noted in reviews, this remaster solidifies its position as a must-play game on Sony’s next-gen hardware.
