It’s not the much-awaited Beyond Good & Evil 2, but it’s still fantastic to see Jade back in action.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was Ubisoft’s standout success of 2003, but the cult favorite Beyond Good & Evil, released just two weeks later, will soon outshine it with an upgraded rerelease. Ubisoft has unveiled a trailer for Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition, confirming it will be available next Tuesday, June 25th — just five days from now.
I hope it holds up because I remember it as an incredible game. Jade and her pig companion Pey’j were unforgettable characters in a richly detailed sci-fi world, where you use a camera and a trusty stick instead of guns. The game resonated so well with players that they’ve been eagerly awaiting a sequel ever since — but Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been stuck in development hell for 15 years, longer than even Duke Nukem Forever.
The trailer also highlights a “reorchestrated soundtrack.” Last year, it was announced that the game would include autosave and cross-save features, making it more accessible and user-friendly compared to the original, which was released during the era of save points in video games. I’ll probably play it on a handheld device!
We knew the remaster was in the works — Ubisoft accidentally released an unfinished version of the game last November, forcing an early confirmation of its existence. Just recently, they deleted a tweet that accidentally revealed the June 25th release date. The game’s trophies were also leaked earlier this month. Additionally, Ubisoft seems to have delisted the original game from Steam, but existing owners can still download it without any issues. Let me know if you notice any changes.
