Apple is gearing up for the rollout of iOS 17.5, bringing a slew of enhancements to iPhone users and unveiling exciting new capabilities for iPad enthusiasts. Among the highlights is the anticipated iPadOS 17.5 update that promises a revamped battery health menu and deeper insights into battery performance.
European Union Web Distribution
The iOS 17.5 update introduces a significant shift in how developers can market their applications. Now, developers can bypass the App Store, directly offering apps to iPhone users in the EU via their websites. This change requires developers to have participated in the Apple Developer Program for two years and their apps must boast over a million annual downloads in the EU.
Introducing Quartiles: A New Game for Word Enthusiasts
Fans of word puzzles will be thrilled with Quartiles, a new addition to Apple News+. In this game, players combine fragments of words to uncover the full word, earning points with each correct combination. Successfully solving five puzzles rewards players with an additional 40 points. This game joins the suite of puzzles available in Apple News+, like Crossword and Crossword Mini, integrated within the Game Center.
Customizable Podcast Widgets Return
The iOS 17.5 update sees the reintroduction of color-adaptive podcast widgets, which align with the album art’s color scheme. Initially launched in iOS 17.4 but removed from the final version, this feature has made a comeback in the latest build.
Enhanced Features for iPads
The iPadOS 17.5 update is set to enhance iPad functionality further with a redesigned battery health menu providing detailed metrics like charge cycle count and maximum remaining battery capacity. Additionally, there’s buzz about a new Apple Pencil that could accompany the next releases of the iPad Pro and iPad Air.
iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5 are slated for release to all devices eligible for the iOS 17 update within the next few weeks.
