Apple is gearing up to release the iPhone 16 series soon, packed with a plethora of changes aimed at both the standard and ‘Pro’ models. The company has prototyped various designs to explore the most viable option considering the feature set. While internal specifications remain largely undisclosed, Apple appears to be considering a departure from the current iPhone 15 and 15 Pro models. An intriguing rumor suggests Apple may be revamping the camera housing on the back of the iPhone 16 Pro models.
Major Overhaul of iPhone 16 Pro Camera Module Anticipated
Reports indicate that the iPhone 16 Pro camera module is set to undergo a significant upgrade with a consolidated design. Recent leaks suggest Apple is planning a vertical camera layout for the standard iPhone 16 models. The rear cameras are expected to adopt a design reminiscent of the iPhone 12, albeit with some key distinctions. Previous reports mainly focused on the standard iPhone 16 models, while the ‘Pro’ models are anticipated to feature a similar design to the iPhone 15 Pro. However, the latest rumors hint at a new camera configuration specifically for the iPhone 16 Pro, retaining elements of the current models but with notable changes.
According to images shared by insider Majin Bu on X, the iPhone 16 Pro will sport a redesigned camera module. Unlike the current setup featuring individual round housings for each camera sensor, the rumored design integrates all the sensors into a single unit. Additional details can be observed in the accompanying image.
While the new design is intriguing, its direct correlation to camera features remains uncertain. Apple has maintained a similar camera arrangement for the ‘Pro’ models since the iPhone 11. It’s plausible that the company may opt for a new layout, although it’s premature to speculate. As mentioned, Apple is exploring multiple prototypes for the ‘Pro’ models, and these reported changes could be pivotal.
In a subsequent update, the insider notes that “it may not signify a substantial alteration to the camera module.” This indicates that the final decision lies with Apple, and the rumor should be taken with caution. Apple is also testing various prototypes for the new capacitive Capture Button, which is purported to control video recording functions on the iPhone 16 Pro.
Additionally, there’s speculation that Apple might introduce several new artificial intelligence features for the iPhone 16. While iOS 18 is expected to introduce a plethora of AI features, some of them might be exclusive to the iPhone 16 series due to the upgraded Neural Engine and A18 chip. We’ll keep you updated as more details emerge regarding the iPhone 16 lineup.
