Apple has officially released the first public beta of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 for iPhone users, a week after launching the third beta for developers. If you’ve been eagerly waiting to try out the public beta of iOS 18 on your device, you can now download and install it through the Settings app on your iPhone. Public beta testers can finally experience Apple’s latest software, which includes a plethora of new features and enhancements, such as advanced AI capabilities.
The First Public Beta of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 is Now Accessible to All Users
Following its tradition, Apple has rolled out the first beta of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 to the public. The update can be easily downloaded on all compatible iPhone and iPad devices. To download the beta, simply navigate to the Settings app on your iPhone, and the process is similar for iPad. However, you need to enroll your device in Apple’s public beta tester program first.
How to Enroll and Download the iOS 18 Public Beta
Once your device is enrolled in Apple’s public beta program, the update will be available over-the-air. To download the beta, go to the Settings app, head to General > Software Updates > Beta Updates, and follow the on-screen instructions to install the relevant beta update on your iPhone.
Apple has streamlined the process for both developers and public beta testers to install the latest iOS 18 beta updates. The latest build introduces several new features for those testing iOS 18 for the first time. Participants in Apple’s beta program will find many of the new features familiar.
iOS 18: Apple’s Most Significant Update Yet
iOS 18 is one of the most substantial updates Apple has released for the iPhone, compatible with all models that support the current iOS 17 platform. iOS 18 introduces a redesigned Control Center with pages, making it easier for users to access and manage their controls. The update also allows users to place app icons anywhere on the Home Screen, creating empty spaces between apps and rows. Additionally, you can customize app icons based on your wallpaper color, offering a new level of personalization for iPhone and iPad users.
With the iOS 18 public beta, you can also explore the new AI features, although some utilities may not be available in the first beta. This suggests that Apple plans to release Apple Intelligence for the iPhone 15 Pro models later this year. The new Siri experience is expected to be available subsequently, with developer testing slated to begin in January 2025.
