Apple recently introduced its latest iPhone 16 lineup, boasting larger batteries, an all-new Camera Capture button, and more. The tech giant calls them their first iPhones designed for Apple Intelligence. As smartphones continue to improve, many users hold onto their devices longer than ever. If you’re still using an iPhone 11, here are five major reasons why upgrading now could be a game-changer.
1. A Vastly Improved Display: Super Retina XDR
While OLED displays were first introduced in 2020 for non-Pro iPhone models, if you’re still on an iPhone 11 or older, you’re using an outdated LCD screen. Upgrading to an iPhone 16 with its OLED Super Retina XDR display means you’ll enjoy a much higher resolution, more vibrant colors, deeper blacks, and support for HDR content.
In short, everything you view will look much sharper. The iPhone 16 also boasts up to 2000 nits of brightness outdoors, compared to the iPhone 11’s 625 nits peak brightness.
2. Advanced AI: Apple Intelligence
Unveiled during WWDC in June, Apple Intelligence brings an array of personalized AI features to the iPhone 16. These include an all-new Siri experience with personal context, Writing Tools to enhance your texts, Genmoji for creating custom emojis, and a “Clean Up” feature for photo editing.
While some features are still rolling out, you’ll need at least an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 to use any of these AI-powered tools. The full Siri upgrade is expected in the Spring, while other updates will arrive by the end of this year with iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2.
3. Longer Battery Life & Faster Charging
The iPhone 16 has taken significant strides in both battery capacity and charging efficiency compared to the iPhone 11. Apple has switched from Lightning to USB-C, providing a unified charging solution for your phone, laptop, and other devices.
In terms of battery life, the iPhone 16 offers an impressive 5 extra hours of video playback compared to the iPhone 11, a notable 30% improvement. Plus, with support for 45W wired charging and 25W MagSafe wireless charging, powering up your device is faster than ever before.
4. Dynamic Island
First introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro, Dynamic Island replaces the standard notch, combining hardware and software into a seamless user experience. You can interact with notifications, control music, and manage apps all from the top of your screen.
Dynamic Island is also integrated with Live Activities, so apps like Flighty can display real-time updates, such as flight details, right in the pill-shaped cutout.
5. New Buttons: Action Button & Camera Control
Since the iPhone 11, two new buttons have been added: the Action Button and Camera Control. The Action Button replaces the traditional mute switch and can now be customized to launch a variety of functions, such as Focus Mode, the Camera app, or even Voice Memos.
Meanwhile, the Camera Control button, exclusive to the iPhone 16, allows users to quickly access the camera app and start shooting. You can also customize this button’s swipe actions to zoom or adjust exposure, depth, and more.
