Apple has packed larger batteries into the new iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, which has significantly improved their battery life compared to previous models. The iPhone 16 Pro Max, for example, now delivers 33 hours of video playback, four hours more than the iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, while users will appreciate these upgrades, there’s a downside: battery replacements for these models are now more expensive, with Apple charging $119.99 per replacement for out-of-warranty devices.
Battery Replacement Costs for iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus Remain at $99.99
According to Apple’s official iPhone repair and service page, the cost of replacing the batteries in the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max has risen by 20%, from the previous $99.99. Fortunately, if you own an iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Plus, the price remains unchanged at $99.99, meaning no additional expense compared to previous models.
AppleCare+ Users Can Still Get Free Battery Replacements – With Conditions
For users with AppleCare+, battery replacements for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are still free, provided the battery health has dropped below 80% of its original capacity. While Apple has not provided a specific reason for the price increase, it’s likely related to the internal redesign of the batteries, which also includes improved heat dissipation.
Earlier this year, a prototype of the iPhone 16 Pro was shown with a battery enclosed in a metal case, likely to aid in heat transfer. Additionally, leaked reports on the base model’s battery suggest it has multiple layers of protection, including the same metal cover. These changes, along with an increase in overall battery capacity compared to the iPhone 15 series, may justify the $119.99 price tag for out-of-warranty replacements.
