Apple and Google are set to integrate Samsung’s advanced ‘M14’ OLED panels in their flagship models later this year. According to the latest report, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will benefit from this cutting-edge technology, with the Pixel 9 series also adopting these state-of-the-art displays to compete with its rivals.
Standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus to Use Older ‘M12’ Panels
Samsung is slated to supply OLED panels for all four iPhone 16 models, but not all versions will receive the same treatment. It is confirmed that Apple will use higher-quality LTPO screens for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. According to The Elec, these flagship models will feature the M14 technology. For those unfamiliar, the ‘M’ refers to a set of materials used by Samsung in its OLED screens, and the number ’14’ indicates the quality level of these materials, promising superior brightness and longevity.
Google aims to match Apple by incorporating the same M14 panels in its upcoming Pixel 9 series. This includes the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL. However, Apple is expected to stick with the previous-generation M12 panels for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, likely to reduce production costs.
Google’s advantage is that the Pixel 9 launch event will occur before Apple’s iPhone 16 unveiling. This allows potential buyers and critics to evaluate the M14 displays and share their insights on the improvements. As always, we will keep our readers updated with the latest news, so stay tuned.
