Apple recently launched the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models, and while these devices have generally been well-received, there are still some areas that need improvement for next year. Specifically, the cameras were upgraded across both the standard and Pro models this year, but the results still fell behind several Android smartphones in recent tests. According to DxOMark’s rankings, the iPhone 16 Pro Max secured fourth place in the overall camera performance category.
iPhone 16 Pro Max Takes Fourth Place in DxOMark’s Camera Test
DxOMark has built a solid reputation for testing smartphone camera hardware and evaluating overall photo and video quality. It’s become a trusted benchmark for both users and industry giants to analyze camera performance. The iPhone 16 Pro Max, however, was unable to outperform some Android flagships this year. While Samsung’s latest models were absent from the top ranks, the iPhone 16 Pro Max still fell behind devices from Huawei, Google, and Honor, which took the top three spots.
The Huawei Pura 70 Ultra claimed the number one spot in DxOMark’s camera rankings, followed by Google and Honor for their top-notch photo capabilities. DxOMark’s testing methodology includes both real-world scenarios and various scientific evaluations to determine which smartphone delivers the best results for users.
Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro Max Performs Well, But Photos Need Improvement
As Apple’s most powerful iPhone to date, the iPhone 16 Pro Max was subjected to rigorous testing, which involved capturing over 3,000 photos and 150 hours of video. Despite these efforts, it appears that Apple still has room for improvement in the photography department. While user preferences may vary, Apple’s adjustments aimed at minimizing shadows and highlights were evident, though the results weren’t enough to surpass competitors in still photography.
iPhone Retains Its Title as the King of Video
Despite lagging behind in photos, the iPhone 16 Pro Max once again solidified its reputation as the best smartphone for video recording. Apple continues to lead the industry in video quality, and this year, the company introduced a new Camera Control button, which enhances user control over both photos and videos, allowing for greater customization in capturing moments.
