Apple is gearing up to introduce a new “Capture” button for all or potentially just the ‘Pro’ models of the upcoming iPhone 16 series. This button is designed to serve multiple gesture controls, enhancing user interaction. According to recent reports, Apple’s official silicone cases for the iPhone 16 will feature an integrated design, meaning there will no longer be a need for a dedicated cutout for this button, even though it is said to be capacitive.
Integrated Design of iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro Cases Eliminates Cutout for the Capture Button
As Apple’s highly anticipated iPhone 16 launch event draws near, we’re only a few days away from discovering the new devices and their advancements. Both models promise significant upgrades, making them well worth the investment. Apple’s unveiling will highlight numerous hardware improvements, with the spotlight likely to be on the Capture Button and its functionality.
Rumors of this Capture Button began surfacing last year, and it seems that Apple is finally ready to bring it to reality. The new button will sit flush with the iPhone 16’s frame, being capacitive in nature. This allows it to register both light and firm presses, as well as detect swipe gestures.
Positioned just below the Side or Power Button, the Capture Button will occupy the same space as the mmWave antenna seen on iPhone 16 models sold in the US. Its design and shape will likely mirror that of the antenna. While third-party case makers may need to design cases with a cutout for the button, Apple has opted for an alternative approach. The company’s official silicone cases will incorporate a mechanism that differentiates between a button press and a swipe, thus eliminating the need for a cutout.
This information was revealed by the well-known Chinese leaker DuanRui, who shared images of the iPhone 16 silicone cases. He pointed out that Apple’s official cases won’t include an opening for the Capture Button, yet will still fully support its functionality thanks to the integrated design.
Analyst Mark Gurman initially suggested that the Capture Button would be limited to the iPhone 16 Pro models. However, other sources have claimed that this feature will be available across all four models in the iPhone 16 lineup. As with all rumors, it’s best to take this information with caution until Apple officially reveals the details. The big unveiling is set for September 9, and we will be providing in-depth coverage as more information becomes available.
