Apple’s September 2025 event unveiled the iPhone 17 lineup, marking one of the boldest redesigns and upgrades in recent memory. With four models on the table—the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the all-new iPhone Air—the company is aiming to redefine both performance and design.
The Ultra-Thin iPhone Air

The highlight of the lineup is without a doubt the iPhone Air, Apple’s slimmest smartphone ever at just 5.6 mm. Built from titanium, the Air focuses on portability while maintaining durability. Despite its thin form, it includes the same A19 chip as the standard iPhone 17, offering flagship-level performance in a lighter package. The Air also introduces eSIM-only connectivity worldwide, signaling Apple’s steady move away from physical SIM cards.
Design Shifts Across the Range

The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max break away from stainless steel, opting instead for aluminum bodies that balance strength with improved heat dissipation. These Pro devices also feature a reimagined camera layout—dubbed the “camera plateau”—a full-width bar housing three advanced 48MP sensors. The base iPhone 17 gets a welcome upgrade too, now offering ProMotion displays that were previously exclusive to higher-end models.
Displays, Performance, and Battery

All iPhone 17 models come with 120Hz ProMotion OLED panels, delivering smoother visuals and brightness levels up to 3,000 nits for outdoor use. The Pro models are powered by Apple’s new A19 Pro chip, built on a 3nm process for faster performance and efficiency, while the iPhone 17 and Air run on the standard A19.
Battery life is another major step forward. The iPhone 17 Pro Max carries the biggest battery ever in an iPhone, providing up to 39 hours of video playback. To sustain high performance, Apple has added vapor chamber cooling, a first for its smartphones.
Cameras for Pros and Creators

The Pro and Pro Max models raise the bar with their triple-lens system. All three sensors capture at 48MP, enabling features like 8× optical-quality zoom, ProRes RAW video, and Dual Capture for simultaneous recording. Even the front camera gets an upgrade—an 18MP sensor with Center Stage support, making video calls more dynamic.
Connectivity and Charging

For the first time, all iPhone 17 devices come equipped with Apple’s N1 networking chip, enabling Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support. Coupled with the new C1X 5G modem, users can expect faster and more reliable connections. Charging also sees an upgrade, with the Pro Max supporting 25W MagSafe, speeding up wireless charging times.
