WhatsApp has been actively developing passkey functionality for its iPhone app, but until recently, this feature was not available to the broader user base. Now, Meta is gradually introducing the passkey option to WhatsApp on iPhone, starting with the newest app update.

Understanding Passkeys
Developed by the FIDO Alliance and backed by leading tech giants such as Apple, Google, and Microsoft, the passkey technology offers a password-free login experience using secure methods like facial recognition or biometrics.
Apple integrated passkey support with iOS 16 and expanded its capabilities in third-party applications with iOS 17. Passkeys can be synchronized across devices using iCloud Keychain or other compatible password managers like 1Password.
Extended Information
With the increasing need for improved security in digital applications, passkeys represent a significant advancement in user authentication methods. By eliminating traditional passwords, passkeys minimize the risks associated with password theft and phishing attacks, providing a safer and more convenient user experience.
