Apple has just rolled out the new 24-inch iMac, this time powered by the advanced M4 chip. While the sleek, colorful design of the iMac remains unchanged, the internal upgrades offer compelling reasons for users to consider an upgrade. Originally, Apple was expected to unveil these new devices in one go by the end of the month, but it seems the company has opted for a slower, more strategic release. Alongside the new iMac, Apple has also made updates to its Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard, replacing the outdated Lightning ports with USB-C for a more universal experience.
USB-C Upgrades for Magic Accessories Across Apple’s Lineup
The introduction of the 24-inch iMac M4 includes updates to the Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard, now featuring USB-C ports instead of Lightning connectors. Additionally, Apple has upgraded the accessories for its M2 Ultra Mac Pro, signaling a broader transition to the USB-C standard across their product range, not just the latest releases.
Same Look, New Connection: Mac Pro Accessories and User Experience
Apart from the updated accessories, the Mac Pro itself maintains the same external design and internal components. However, it’s expected that a significant upgrade for the device will be announced toward the end of the upcoming year. This latest change allows Mac Pro buyers to enjoy the convenience of USB-C-enabled accessories, moving away from the older Lightning models. The Mac Pro, initially launched in 2022 with the powerful M2 Ultra chip, still stands at a premium price point of $5,999.
For those already owning a Mac who are interested in the updated Magic Mouse and Keyboard, Apple now offers these accessories as standalone purchases with the new USB-C ports. It’s worth noting that Apple has yet to address one of the most persistent design issues with the Magic Mouse: the charging port location. The mouse must still be flipped upside down to charge, rendering it unusable during that time. Apple is anticipated to launch additional Mac models in the near future, so keep an eye out for new developments.
