The world of technology is expecting that the upcoming AMD GPU Vega will possibly become something that Ryzen was in the CPU sphere – a challenge for the current ruler from Intel. The most recent leak of information, which occurred with the Linux graphic patch release, supported the speculations as we now have a precise knowledge of the specifications and technology used.
What Will It Be Like?
The new AMD GPU features 64 new-generation computing units; each divided into 64 GCN stream processors making 4096 GCN stream processors on the whole. They comprise four divisions of 1024 each with its shader engine. Those are featured with two ACUs; one renders back-end and four texture blocks.
There are 16 texture mapping units inside each of the texture blocks. The total number of TMUs is 256 and Vega supports a simultaneous work of 8 independent threads. Such a composition should provide enough performance to make Vega a worthy alternative for every potential customer. However, the overall success of the device will be determined mainly by its price.
Will It Outscore the Rivals?
The AMD Radeon RX Vega will probably be one of the fastest graphic cards available on the market. It should be able to successfully compete with all the variants of NVIDIA’s Geforce GTX 10 series. The company is also planning to release the rebuilt version of Radeon RX 500 series that should compete with the lower-ranking NVIDIA GTX 1060s.
There surely won’t be only one variant of the card available. Besides the most powerful Titan Xp which will feature 16 GB HBM2 and dual full Vega 10 GPUs, the challenge of GTX 1080, there will also be other types of the card sold for lower prices. They will feature a considerably lower performance such as the lower-end RX Vega with 4GB of HBM2. Those should be however an option for the customers who want to spend less money. However, even the cheapest Vega model should compete with GTX 1070.
Create the Full Red System
There are many fans of the red brand who would like to build the whole system featuring only the AMD products. Up to this date, they didn’t have a possibility to buy a GPU with enough performance to compete with the NVIDIA systems. And that’s the fact company aims to change with the new product.
The new GPU represents a large shift in the situation and a great opportunity for these people as they can nowadays use their AMD Ryzen CPU together with Vega graphic card. A system like that should provide sufficient power to perform as high as 120 FPS+ on 1440p and 60 FPS on 4K systems.
What About the Release?
AMD plans to release the new Vega GPU during this quarter of the year. The crucial aspect which determines the success of the new product will be its pricing. The cost depends on the model with about £390 for the least powerful version of the GPU up to £900 for the most dominant model of the AMD stable. The prices will be lower than those of the comparable models by NVIDIA, which is a typical feature of all the products of AMD brand.
