GeForce users running cards in SLI have reason to rejoice with the 385.41 driver update. Touting fixes for ARK: Survival Evolved, Player Unknown’s Battleground and the fairly recently-released LawBreakers, users suffering from profile errors and other assorted issues with their SLI setup should update as soon as possible and check their in-game performance.
SLI profiles and ShadowPlay integration
If you’re looking forward to the looming release of Destiny 2 and plan to run it in SLI this update should prepare your cards to be put through their paces. Alternatively, laptop users will benefit from the inclusion of beta Whisper Mode drivers for Destiny 2 as well.
While waiting for Destiny 2 to drop, ShadowPlay Highlights support has been added for PUBG and allows users to easily capture screenshots and video replay of exciting moments without constantly running recording software and sacrificing game performance. You’ll even be able to share your proudest moments without labour-intensive editing and tweaking.
ARK: Survival Evolved is slated to leave its early access period at the end of August, so make sure you’ve updated and checked out its SLI profile to get an edge in its notoriously demanding gameplay.
Meanwhile, behind the scenes
Driver feedback is already rolling in quickly with various reports of problems going unsolved or fixes not quite working up to par with certain GPUs. If you’re experiencing any oddities, make sure to check the GeForce forums to see if your issue has been vetted by support. As always, you may need to troubleshoot flickering or game instability for individual games and DirectX 12 issues seem to be a common point of contention with this set of drivers.
You may want to hold off on updating if you use the NVIDIA Control Panel tray icon with any regularity: This update removes it from your system bar to save on resources. You won’t find the nvtray process in the Windows Task Manager for similar reasons, but you’ll still be able to tweak your video card settings as normal.
Sadly, this update only had a single bugfix for a framerate-dropping bug in LawBreakers, so its usefulness may not be immediately apparent if you don’t run SLI and aren’t preparing for Destiny 2. There’s always hope for the next update cycle, right?
