Arkane Studios, the developer of the game, released a demo featuring the first hour of the gameplay. It is, however, only available for PS4 and Xbox as the owners of the other platforms have to wait for the full version.
About Prey
Prey is a sci-fi thriller FPS situated on a space station Talos I which was infested by an aggressive alien race called Typhon. The area of the station is an open – world environment, and the player has to find out what happened and also search for the possible ways how to stop the infestation.
The original game released in 2006 was developed by Human Head Studios and represents its greatest achievement up to this day. Soon after the success, the studio planned the sequel, but the works on it were halted due to the problems with the intellectual rights. The planned game was cancelled in 2014.
Bethesda later acquired the trademark and asked Arkane Studios to create the remake. The current developer of the game made itself famous by the two positively acclaimed Dishonored games or Bioshock 2 which served as a source of inspiration also for their current project.
So – What’s it Like?
The Prey PS4 demo inspires mainly positive reviews by the players. They are content with the overall gameplay of the game as well as with the Bioshock-like art design and the difficult but challenging fights with the monsters. The general acclaim of the game is positive, and it seems that we will witness its successful release.
However, there are also several calls on the web criticising the beta-like state of the game. They report numerous bugs, poor graphics with many glitches or bad controls. Some players also warn about the possible problem with the Denuvo game protection.
Demo Exclusively for PS4 and Xbox
Although the final version of Prey is going to be released on all the platforms, PC included, the demo of the game is only available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox. Ralph Colantonio, The president of Arkane Studios, stated that they didn´t have enough resources to release the demo version of the game for all the platforms. They have thus chosen the consoles as the PC players can also use services of Steam which allows to refund the game up to two hours after its launch. They have the possibility to try the game and check whether its qualities live up to their expectations.
However, Colantonio’s statement did not calm the PC players who are not satisfied with the idea that they have to buy the game without any chance to try it without the need to pay money for it.
Release Information
Prey release date is scheduled on Friday, the 5th of May for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Estimated price of the game is from £34.99 to £44.99, but there have already been discounts on the online stores.
