Meta is enhancing WhatsApp to elevate its video calling capabilities.
Several improvements are coming to WhatsApp video calls, aimed at making them more practical for large group conversations.
One key feature is the speaker spotlight, which automatically highlights the current speaker, putting them at the forefront of the screen, as mentioned in a Meta blog post. Additionally, screen sharing is getting better: when you share your screen and play a video with sound, the audio will now be shared as well.
Furthermore, video calls will support up to 32 participants, regardless of the device being used. Previously, this limit applied only to mobile devices, while desktop applications were restricted—Windows to 16 people and Mac to eight.
Meta has announced that these updates will be rolled out “over the coming weeks.”
