Microsoft Unveils Revolutionary Copilot+ PCs with Cutting-Edge AI
Microsoft is ushering in a new era of Windows PCs with the introduction of Copilot+ laptops, designed to offer next-generation AI experiences. Announced today, Copilot+ will bring advanced AI capabilities to Windows 11, exclusive to new Copilot+-branded PCs launching this summer.
To qualify as a Copilot+ PC, the device must feature an NPU with at least 40 TOPS of power. Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X Series chips are the first to meet this standard, making the initial wave of Copilot+ PCs exclusively powered by Windows on Arm. Copilot+ models with Intel and AMD chips are anticipated later this year.
Microsoft is promoting several innovative AI experiences exclusive to Copilot+ PCs:
- Recall Anything: Retrieve any information seen on your PC by simply asking for it.
- Context-Aware Copilot: Visually and contextually responsive assistant.
- Live Caption Translations: Translate 40+ languages into English directly on the device.
- Auto Super Resolution: Enhance image quality effortlessly.
- Advanced Image and Text Generation: Improved creation tools with Cocreator.
- Enhanced Windows Studio Effects: Superior video and lighting effects for webcams.
The most remarkable feature is Recall, which runs in the background, logging everything you see and do on your PC. This allows you to search for any activity using natural language, across any app. Microsoft highlights this as a powerful productivity tool, transforming how users interact with their computers.
The Recall feature includes a Timeline interface, letting users scroll through snapshots captured by Windows based on search criteria. For example, searching for “dinosaurs” will display every instance of dinosaur-related content on your screen, allowing you to quickly access it.
Recall can also interpret current screen content and offer contextual suggestions. For instance, it can help edit a photo with one click or compare two open documents side by side.
Additionally, Live Captions on Copilot+ PCs can translate over 40 languages into English from any live or recorded audio/video, without needing cloud access. Windows Studio Effects now offer real-time artistic styles and improved lighting for webcam feeds.
Furthermore, Copilot+ devices can generate images and text without cloud reliance, speeding up tasks. Cocreator assists with artistic suggestions, enhancing creative workflows.
Microsoft believes Copilot+ PCs mark the start of a new era for Windows devices, betting that these AI features will entice users to upgrade.
Copilot+ PCs Launch in June
The first Copilot+ PCs, including Microsoft’s own Surface Pro and Surface Laptop with Snapdragon X chips, will start shipping in June. However, many of these AI features will be rolled out later this year. Major OEMs are also expected to launch their Copilot+ PCs next month.
These new devices will feature a revamped Windows 11 wallpaper, blending the original Bloom design with Copilot’s colors.
