When you are using social media, be it for personal use or for your business, getting people to engage with you is not always easy. The reason for this is in part because of the way in which you are sharing and adding content to the channels, and in part because of the sheer amount of content which exists on social media, almost offering too much choice.
There are, however, ways in which you can create your content in a way that will impress your social media following and ensure that they actively engage with you.
Get More Followers
It stands to reason that the more followers that you have, the more engagement you will see and this comes down to basic mathematics. At the same time, you may find that you are being followed by fake or dead accounts which means that a small percentage of your following won’t even be able to engage with you. For this reason, working hard on attracting real Instagram followers, more Facebook friends and more followers on Twitter, should be your primary mission when you are looking for more engagement.
Add Value
Don’t overlook just how important it is that you are adding great value in terms of your content and you should be reviewing your content in detail before it goes live. Ask yourself what it is that you are providing for your followers, are you being funny? Informative? Shocking? Heartwarming? Whatever niche it is that you are looking to, make sure that as a reader, you would feel something about this content and engage with it yourself.
Calls to Action
Calls to action are a great way to push people towards engaging with your content and if you use them in the right way, you can really see some positive steps in engagement. The idea of a call to action is to ask a question which can be answered through engagement. An example of this could be a photo with 4 choices in it that you have posted on Facebook, you can then ask your followers to like for choice A, love for choice B, laugh for choice C or add a sad face for choice D. Assuming that the content which you are uploading is relevant and thought-provoking, this kind of content can see a huge boost in engagement. Use calls to actions sparingly, doing so too often will turn people off.
Engage
You must also be prepared to engage in order to encourage others to do the same and when someone comments on your content you should do your best to reply to them, and encourage further engagement. Equally, you should be looking to engage on the posts and content of others so that they will return the favor later on. Don’t forget that social media is about a community and you must pay a role in it if you wish to benefit from it.
